"I could think of no worse example for nations abroad, who for the first time were trying to put free electoral procedures into effect, than that of the United States wrangling over the results of our presidential election, and even suggesting that the presidency itself could be stolen by thievery at the ballot box."
- Richard M. Nixon, following his close loss in the election of 1960.
In 1801, Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated as our republic's third President. The world watched as his predecessor, John Adams, a man arguably as responsible for the nation's founding as any one else, peacefully handed over his position power following a remarkably contentious election. A precedent was set that day in our republic that the preservation of the system that these men had designed would be prioritized over their own interests and ambition.
Whether it was Nixon's quick concession in 1960, despite election irregularities, or Al Gore's concession in 2000, our elections have been set a part in the planet's history with our priority on preserving our less than perfect system. Our course this year is the study of where this system originated and why the people of our republic have such a deep faith in it. We may come to agree with this faith or we may come away wishing to challenge our two hundred year old system.
We will also learn this year that our system is frequently administered in significantly different ways depending on who is our President.
Leaving alone personalities and behaviors of the men currently running for president, that could be a entire month of blogger posts 😉, I am curious to hear about your thoughts about policy.
Only focusing on policy, please share one policy that you hope that the person who is our President in 2021 will act upon. You will identify a policy and briefly, only a few sentences, share why you wish to see a President commit to that policy. Here is a list of policies to pick from if you are unsure of what to choose, LIST.
There is not a need to share who we may support, only the policies we wish to see enacted and why that policy matters to you. Frequently, we agree way more on policies than do we agree on the candidates.
As is our practice, please reply to at least two classmates.
- The words "agree" or "disagree" are insufficient and easily misunderstood.
- Use this task as an opportunity to ask clarifying questions of one another or share what you may know about that policy.
- This unusual restriction that I am placing on this blogger post will keep this page as an open forum of exchange.
I hope that Biden's environmental policy is acted upon. I think this policy is extremely important right now. It scares me that there is the possibility that I (and my future descendants) will grow up on an earth that is not healthy. This will sound cliche but it seems that the adults from generations before us (that caused this crisis) don't seem to be taking responsibility because somehow that would be accepting defeat. It would be them saying they were wrong. I think the contrary, if the adults that had power and could actually do something looked at the kids screaming for our lives and said "let's do this", I don't think that would be accepting defeat, it would show that they care, and that they are a generation of good people. Biden's plan seems incredibly ambitious, but it is something. It is a start, no one really knows if it will work until it is put into action.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. I think many people overlook the urgency and importance of saving the one and only planet that we will ever have. I have similar hopes that we can still manage to salvage our beautiful planet Earth.
DeleteI like that you stated the possibility of Biden's environmental plan failing. It reminds us that there is no 100% perfect way to fix something. But you always have to start trying. Let's hope the Earth can be saved!
DeleteI agree. We know Biden's plan isn't perfect, but at least he's trying. An imperfect plan is way better than no plan. Biden needs to win, especially because our current president doesn't even believe in global warming.
DeleteI hope that we will have a future where all people of all races, sexualities, genders, ethnicities and whatnot can all live together in peace and harmony. This isn't really a policy, but I am in total support of Biden's approach to keeping the basic human rights of women, the LGBTQIA+ community, immigrants, African Americans, and minorities, as I hope many voters agree with too. I understand that there are so many policies that certain candidates have that you may not agree with, but as a member of multiple of the minority groups that I listed above, I am hoping that everyone will be able to overcome their possible disagreements with one of our candidates (who isn't perfect) and be able to act like adults, and vote for a future for their children, who, until they are 18, have absolutely no say in their own future. I cannot express how much I, and other teenagers, are relying on the adults of our country to vote in a way that allows us to have a future in the first place. Adults in our country really need to step up and act like adults; children shouldn't have to be fighting for their BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. Our bar for a president is so ridiculously low, but I guess what I am saying is that the citizens in this country voted for bright future.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree, i know that people, that are a part of the minorities that belen listed, are in constant fear of something bad happening to them. People that are sexist, racist, homophobic, etc. get brought out into the light when they have a leader that feels this way. That doesn't mean that when there is a leader with non- racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. the "antis"' ideas don't exist anymore (idk if that makes sense). But with a leader that supports these groups, the horrible people with those ideas get kind shut into the dark
DeleteI appreciate you explaining that children should not be in the situation where they have to stand up for their basic human rights. It is quite sad that we have come to such a point where the future of equality rests on the shoulders of kids. We can only hope Biden's influence will take some of that pressure off.

DeleteI HATE the fact that this even has to be said. I disgusts me that people still have to fight for their right to LIVE in 2020, in America, which is supposed to be the land of the free. Why are black people, especially black trans women, still being murdered? Why are asians being harassed and attacked? Why are school shootings still taking place? Why is legal gay marriage in danger of being revoked? Why are immigrants still hated? Why are criminals not allowed to vote, and the volunteer prison firefighters in California not allowed to become professionals? Why is it that a woman is "asking for it" when she wears what she likes and gets sexually harassed and objectified by men? Society is a mess, and I just hope that the new generation does just as much as they are doing now. I also hope Biden wins, as a minority, because at that point I don't have the risk of being k*lled on the street.
(If this doesn't change, I might have to intervene and run for president)
(Sakari again haha)
DeleteI forgot to mention it, but anti-semitism and islamphobia is still a really big problem as well! The stereotype that Jewish individuals are good with money, and that muslims are terrorists! (as well as the idea that black people can't be muslim?) Just wanted to bring it up as well since America has so many neo-Na*is :)
I relate to this response so much! It is frustrating to see adults and communities that I am a part of throw away the importance of voting when our future is in their hands. Adults really do need to act like adults :)
DeleteIt is so sad that we are now fighting for rights that took hundreds of years to achieve. People died so that we could have racial equality, women's rights, and everything that Belen mentioned. It feels like we are back at square one, and that is terrifying for our generation's future.
DeleteI feel everything written here. Living in our current circumstances is absolutely terrifying--as teens, we aren't given respect, we aren't given control, and we can't make changes. Instead of fixing the issues they cause, most politicians and people in power say that we're "the future!" and continue to ruin ours. Saying we can fix things because we're younger and therefore without problems is such an empty statement, and they know it. There are bad people in our generation as well. We aren't magical, YA Novel saviors. We're children that are rapidly being radicalized. This system needs reform.
DeleteI completely agree with this. People need to step up and realize the privilege of voting and getting your opinion and voice out. There is so much discrimination of race, gender, lgbtq+ in our country and it needs to stop.
DeleteI hope Biden's economic plans to invest in the domestic economy of the US will be carried out. He wants to make a $10,000 cut on student loans, and add $200 into monthly social security payments. He wants to get the minimum wage to $15/hour and place $2,000,000,000,000 in green energy. Furthermore, Biden's policy plan sees a $400,000,000,000 purchase of domestically-made products and a $300,000,000,000 investment in domestic goods and services. I could see these plans revitalize the American economy and get us back on our feet as the pandemic comes to an end.
ReplyDelete(Sakari Jackson)
DeleteHonestly, yes, same. It will really help when I'm living alone and need to support myself. I don't want the Earth to die, and if it dosen't, I still need to be able to afford to live.
I share your hope that one day in the near future, we will transition to green energy. Not just because of the effect on the environment, but also because it is efficient, cheap and can create jobs. Obviously, we have to be careful as to how we implement this delicate policy plan, but I think that if instituted correctly, alternative energy can be a massive, unprecedented boost to our economy and to our environment.
DeleteAs a fellow student waiting for college in the future, of course this is agreeable. I find this to be an issue for those who are fully capable of creating change with their intelligence, but they can't put it to use because they can't afford education. Anyway, what you said as a whole is agreeable.
DeleteI agree, and liked how you included that someone will finallydo something about the pandemic.
ReplyDeleteI think that the way that President Trump is handling the Covid-19 pandemic is weak and inefficient, and what Biden is planning on doing is a plan that will help the American People better that what Trump is doing. President Trump has failed to act, and he is blaming people when he should really ask himself what has he done, and I believe that Biden would be better than Trump at handling this election.
DeleteAs we look toward the future, I hope to see America where the color of a person does not matter and that everyone can see others as just a fellow person. There should be no need to prove that you are not racist, like having supporting a specific group, or choosing a person of a specific color for something to show that you accept the person. I also hope for people to see a bigger picture, where people see how other races, such as Asian, are being discriminated against. For instance, people of Asian heritage were required to score higher on the SHSAT to be admitted into a specialized High school, this idea was originated from the stereotype that Asians are more intelligent that other races. I also hope that opinions are more accepted, people should look at other’s views and respect it even if they completely reject it. I have experienced this problem many times because I usually have differing political views compared to many others around me, this leads to people angrily scolding me saying are you stupid why do you think that, no one likes people like you, is there something wrong with your brain. I feel it is not fair to live a life where I have to keep my mouth shut about my views because of the worry of how others may react to it. This is what I hope for the future of America and its people.
ReplyDelete(Sakari Jackson)
DeleteWow, it's so messed up that Asians have to score higher on the SHSAT! I wasn't aware of that, that's awful and racist. I also hope that in general, racism towards asians is recognized more. When people think about racism, they relate it to black hate, but racism towards asians is so ingrained in our culture for some reason!
I feel like the points you make are extremely important and easily overlooked. One would assume that the development of social media would make our world more welcoming and accepting of other opinions, but that is the opposite of what happened. We've closed ourselves into echo chambers and we don't allow other opinions to exist. I don't know what the government could do to address this problem, but it definitely is a massive problem that absolutely needs to be addressed.
Delete(Sakari Jackson)
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone so far is saying, but I'm going to talk about Gun Policies since no one else has. I really don't have strong opinions on guns, but I don't want to be shot, so I support what the democrats are saying about it. School shootings aren't a real problem in other countries, so why is America like this? The second amendment, right? yeah.
I also wanted to talk about the Criminal Justice policies as a supporter of ACAB and Defund the Police and Abolish Prisons (I can explain why if anyone was curious). Biden wants to lower rates of incarceration, and increase the rights for former prisoners, which I can support, as it's pretty messed up that felons can't vote or do a lot of things. He wants to "reform" the police, but that's better than supporting them, I guess. I don't want to talk about the whole article as anyone can access it, but the last thing I'll say is it's great how he plans to erase the mandatory sentence for nonviolent crimes (that's literally so stupid. Mandatory prison sentence. Just hurry up and say you want your slaves back already) and make sure police properly prosecute hate crimes, which is NECESSARY, there are so many HATE CRIMES that aren't recognized as such.
Totally agree with everything in this comment. Although Biden's plans are not perfect, it is a step in the right direction, especially considering the behavior witnessed by American citizens over the summer and beyond. The second amendment "right" is also something I am incredibly frustrated and upset with.
DeleteThe second Amendment Right is something I believe is a right that we all should respect because what happens if someone invades your house, and you are stuck against them. You need to defend yourself, and the second amendment right, while flawed, is something that we should respect. The does not mean that it does not need to be amended and I believe that it should be restricted with laws that require an age requirement and some guns and gun add-ons should be banned entirely. Also, if someone kills someone, do you blame the gun or the person. Guns need to be restricted, but the people using them are also at fault. The second amendment is at fault, but not the entire blame should be cast on it.
DeleteThe 2nd Amendment does seem useful for self defense, though I think national and strict regulation is needed. The racism and generally disgusting actions of the police and prison system however needs to change, which I am in complete favor of. Police brutality has created mistrust of what needs to be a trustable organization, not the near military it is now. Over-incarceration is also a problem, as it ruins the lives of so many for what are often harmless, or worse non-existant, crimes, while also draining public resources to do so, without even fixing the problem of crime.
DeleteI agree with all of this. I think gun control is a very important and would make America a safer place. I also think that criminal justice is a big problem that disproportionally affects minorities. The U.S. prison system is extremely problematic, and anything that can be done to fix it is necessary.
Delete(Sakari)
Delete@Aiden
It is currently 7:36pm and I wanted to say that i agree the second amendment is important. What else will we use to revolt against the government? But yeah, it is heavily flawed. What i meant was more of "why do conservatives always use this excuse whenever any minority is shot" We definitely need more gun regulations, but I do not think they should be banned.
The biggest issue, to me, as a Jewish-American, is our relationship with Israel. Israel has historically been the home of the Jews, and it is incredibly important to protect it. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, and one of the only pro-US nations. To me, the threats to Israel are not just political, but personal. Me and my family know people who have died in terrorist attacks in Israel. One of these people is Diego Ladowski. Diego was born in Argentina and emigrated to Israel in 1992. He spoke multiple languages and truly enjoyed his job in foreign relations. He had been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Mission to Peru from Israel, and was entering the university to submit his final paper. He thought that it would be his last time stepping foot in that building. Unfortunately for him and 93 others, the Iran-backed terrorist organization of Hamas planted a bomb in the cafeteria of the university. When it went off, my mother lost a friend, and Israel lost a devoted citizen. Diego's story is just one example of the countless lives lost to attacks on Israel. As the leading economic, political, and military superpower on this earth, it is our duty to make sure tragedies like this can never occur again. This is why we absolutely must protect the State of Israel, its sovereignty, and its people.
ReplyDeleteI would like to clarify that when I said that Israel is one of the only pro-US nations, I meant that they are one of the only pro-US nations in the Middle East.
DeleteI have to say I agree. It's awful what's happening in Israel and so many other places in the world, and I hope the US will have the balls to step up and help.
DeleteI found your opinion very interesting and I see why this was put up to your attention. I can agree with what you said.
DeleteI am hoping to see more work on our education system, especially relieving student debt and providing free public college options. This is something that could directly effect me in the future, as I am a student who has always been expected by my family and myself to attend college. This could also allow more low income families to send their children to university and get a higher education, which is something that everyone deserves. Biden's plan also outlines how money should be spent to decrease educational disparities, which is so important and I hope to see steps being taken towards this from whatever candidate is elected. It makes me sad to know that a lot of people can not go to college simply because of cost, when that is not something that anyone should have to be worried about just to learn.
ReplyDeleteI also see this as a massive problem. College is becoming more and more necessary, but at the same time more and more expensive. An educated US will mean future prosperity and good decisions and education has a very high return on investment in the long term. I do wonder how useful it could be in a federal election, given how much of education is local and how little many nation wide efforts have changed things, but if planned well I really think it could be a huge benefit.
DeleteThis is so important to remember! If we need higher education to get jobs that make us enough money, then why is higher education not affordable to everyone. This idea that you need to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars just to get a degree that allows you to have a future feeds into the already huge class gap we have in America. The rich get richer as they are able to afford college for their children, and the lower class have virtually no way of escaping as they do not have the option to get higher education.
DeleteI agree. Education is the backbone of a society, and now more than ever we need to be putting resources towards it. After all, in America education is a right, not a privilege.
DeleteI think Biden plan to deal with climate change is the most important because he hopes to reduces the amount pollution put out in to the world. I think this is the most important plan because this not only effects America but this affect the whole world not just humans. Joe Biden hopes to do this funding more recourses towards the goal and hoping to make homes and vehicles carbon efficient
ReplyDeleteClimate for me is my main issue, with many very close seconds though. It just feels incredibly frustrating how little is being done, because it is really seems like an existential threat to my future, threatening the worlds food supply, natural disaster frequency, sea level rise, and even human conflicts. As of yet, many renewables are cheaper than fossil fuels but oil and gas are being in many cases propped up by subsidies. For that reason, I can see federal government being very useful for climate change in a way that it might not be for say local police reform, hence the election will be more important for it. I would wish to see a policy removing all fossil fuel subsidies, with a movement of those left unemployed to clean energy and mineral extraction where their skills will be of use, and shortly after a tax on fossil fuel production companies and on fossil fuel imports, allowing for an incentive to go green with less tax bureaucracy than say cap and trade. This money would be invested into renewable energy collection and storage. A timeline would be set such that work would end with effectively zero carbon emissions by no later than about 2040. That would be the policy I would most wish to be implemented this election.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an important issue, and it's so frustrating to me that our generation is being handed a dying Earth and people in the White House can't even accept the severity of climate. I agree that federal government is key to making significant change on this issue. We're at a point where we not only need to get carbon emissions to zero but we remove carbon that is already in the air. I think that creating more green jobs is a great way to help the environment AND reduce unemployment.
DeleteI also agree with this. It's absurd to me that people don't understand how serious this issue is, I think people need to start acknowledging that our planet is slowly dying and we need to start stepping up to deal with the issue.
DeleteOne policy that I think is extremely important and I hope is acted upon is Biden's policy for health care. This policy involves expanding on the Affordable Care Act and providing a public option for health care. I think this policy is a good way to appeal to all Americans, because those who need health care can have it, but nothing changes for those who want to keep the health care they have. In a world where we need to do more for the people and not less, I cannot understand one candidate trying to repeal the ACA completely. This leaves more than 20 million Americans with no health care, and specifically affects anyone with preexisting conditions. This terrifies me especially when there is no replacement plan. Biden's policy not only protects the health care rights we already have, but expands upon it, and invests billions of dollars into care, and protects abortion access. No matter where your beliefs lie on these issues, I think it should be universally agreed that we need to protect and expand these basic human rights, and that everyone deserves proper care. Especially with the recent Supreme Court confirmation, I fear that these rights could be at risk, which is why I think it is so important that Biden's policy is executed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of these statements, because the fate of the ACA is now in the hands of the supreme court, and if repealed, will leave millions of working class Americans without healthcare. The current president has not provided any reason for doing so, and has also failed to provide an alternate healthcare program to replace it. All of this is happening while we are still in a pandemic, and will leave devastating effects on those who rely on Obamacare. There are also many other numerous cases being handled with the Supreme Court right now, and with the courts leaning right, there may be a lot of basic rights at risk for minority groups.
DeleteA policy I want to see come out of this election, and the future president to act upon is action to change the systemic racism and oppression rooted in our policing systems. Although the issue of unfair policing has been going on for centuries in our country, this year alone we have seen over 164 black people murdered by police officers. Even if these people did commit a crime, there is almost no excuse for a police officer to fire their weapon unless their life was in immediate danger. In many cases across the country a white person that has committed a very serious crime are safely apprehended, unlike for example the inexcusable treatment of George Floyd who was only suspected of committing a crime, and yet suffered under an officers knee for eight minutes before he passed away. America has been referred to as the land of dreams, with liberty and justice for all, but how can this be true when the people that are supposed to be protecting the community are killing hundreds of innocent people. This is why we must have officers take training courses on how to properly deal with any situations, as well as go through regular mental health checks to see that they are fit to be carrying a weapon around the community. Lastly I want to see a policy created that all police officers that were responsible for the death of an innocent person are held accountable for their action, just as any other person would be if they had done the same.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for real action concerning global warming. I think global warming is a serious problem that needs to be addressed now before it gets even worse, and it's not something we can choose to ignore if we want to inhabit this planet for hundreds of years to come. We need to think long term instead of looking for short benefits, and the president needs to decide on a plan of action and follow through with it.
ReplyDeleteI also think this, because even though Biden does not support the Green New Deal, he will at least bring the US back into the Paris Accords, which is something that Trump has filed the US to withdrawal from. We only have 1 Earth, and it is incredibly crucial to try and reduce carbon emissions, and to invest in green energy, which is what I hope that Biden does.
DeleteI hope that who ever the new president is, they act upon the policy of reducing the price of healthcare and making it more accessible. Both Trump and Biden have plans on reducing the cost of healthcare, which I highly approve. Specifically, the price of prescription drugs were reduced. I believe that this policy should be acted upon because healthcare is a big part of many lives. It should be provided to everyone in the country so that the nation has a way of ensuring the health of American citizens. Without healthcare, many people would have died, on their way to death, or struggling to afford healthcare on their won accord. The fact that there is healthcare is very reassuring, but I believe that it should be more generous to the general public.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Now that Amy Coney Barret has been excepted as a justice on the supreme court, everyone that is not able to afford private health care is at serious risk. For people with pre existing conditions such as diabetes, the medicine they need to live for just one month may cost them over $500 dollars. Especially now with coronavirus and the amount of people that have lost their jobs, which may have given them healthcare coverage, it is crucial that we provide universal healthcare.
DeleteI agree. We now have the technology to save countless lives and we should be using it to do so. It would be such a wonderful thing if all Americans were taken care of with a high level of care at a lower overall cost, and this an important issue that the president should act on.
DeleteOne of the biggest issues/policies that I think is very important is Biden's stance on coronavirus-related issues. Our current president has been doing... less than great of a job handling the pandemic, and is constantly violating and going against CDC guidelines, politicizing the issue, and causing way more deaths than what the numbers would be if he had stopped to listen to the experts. What I want is nothing very extravagant or exorbitant, because I would just like a president who:
ReplyDelete1. Follows CDC guidelines
2. Wears a mask and promotes wearing one
3. Tries to expand healthcare, instead of taking it away from millions of Americans.
The bar is relatively low, and hopefully Biden will do all of these things, because the pandemic does not seem to be ending anytime soon.
I agree with everything you said. Trump's action of politicizing the pandemic, and the safety measures required, like wearing masks, is horrible. These measures would benefit everyone and would help things go back to normal much faster. Safety shouldn't be political.
DeleteI agree, especially with the mention of healthcare, because healthcare is more important than ever.
DeleteGiven that our lives have been messed up by this pandemic, and the fact that the cheeto-in-chief has completely bungled the handling of the pandemic, whoever the next president is needs to man the heck up and do some work to protect our people.
DeleteI hope that Biden's environmental policy must be put to use. Currently, we are seeing the affects of global warming throughout the world, and having a president that actually believes in science is a must-have. It scares me that, possibly in my lifetime, I might see the Earth getting destroyed. This is an important issue, and it will impact our future. Biden's plan seems incredibly ambitious, but I respect that he has a plan. Every policy will have problems, but I respect the fact that he is at least trying, unlike our current president, who denies that global warming even exists.
ReplyDeleteYes! Biden's plans make it clear that he actually believes this is a problem, and wants to change things. Trump doesn't even BELIEVE in climate change. Sometimes, especially among adults, there's this belief that no one has to do anything, because we (literal children/teenagers) will fix the world. The older generations (specifically capitalists) often like to pretend that they aren't responsible for dooming the earth, and ruining our promised futures. They are. So many of them think they can just continue making things worse, and then wash their hands of the issues they created by forcing it onto younger generations. I appreciate that Biden is geared toward change instead of money, even if his plan might not work.
DeleteYeah the environment is an extremely important problem that we need to solve and Trump's only plans are to make it worse.
DeleteIf you knew nothing about the state of the U.S. and only had these articles to go on, it becomes increasingly clear that ALL of Biden's policies are better than Trump's. Biden's team has done actual research and have statistics and plans to back their decisions, whereas Trump is a white supremacist actively encouraging murder, racism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, Islamophobia--the list goes on.
ReplyDeleteBiden might not be anyone's first choice, but the fact is that not voting for him so you can feel better about yourself is an incredibly privileged take. Not voting is a vote for Trump. We need Biden in office because, yeah, there are going to be policies of his that we disagree with, but a mixed-bag president is better than our current Nazi.
I think all of Biden's policies are important/ambitious, but, for me, the most relevant is his plans for the pandemic. Hundreds of thousands have already died thanks to Trump's inability to do literally anything beneficial. We need to reestablish connections with the WHO, follow CDC guidelines, and get things together.
I hope that Biden's coronavirus plan is acted upon. I think that Trump's is entirely unrealistic, it seems crazy to even consider that we could have 300 million doses of the vaccine by January. I also think that Trump has not done a good job of dealing with the coronavirus and if we had been more prepared from the beginning, we might not be experiencing the second wave of Covid-19. Biden's plan addresses the disproportions of coronavirus in communities of color. I think that the coronavirus is a huge part of everyone's life right now and Trump hasn't been taking it seriously. He has been setting example of not wearing masks and of not taking the correct safety precautions needed during these times. Many people have been following Trump's lead, and not wearing masks in public places. The only way for this pandemic to get better and for a safe vaccine to be created is to take the whole thing seriously. I think that by looking at Biden's plans versus Trump's, you can clearly tell which plans and which president is better for our country.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!! If trump hasn't taken sufficient precautions when the virus has been in it's highest peak then what can we expect in our health safety in the next 4 years if he wins this next term!?!
DeleteOne important issue is the environment. Biden's plan includes limiting CO2 emissions, investing in environmental efforts, promoting cars and houses that are better for the environment. Trump's plans include increasing the fossil fuel industry and getting rid of environmental regulations. Climate change is becoming a more important issue as time goes on and things don't change. Trump's policies would actively hurt the environment and negatively affect everyone on the planet. Though Biden's plans are not as drastic as they could be and will not do everything needed to help the earth, they are definitely steps in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteYes! Biden's plan is better than nothing, better than taking the wrong steps into making a great change.
DeleteA policy i hope that would be better acted upon this election would be Biden's immigration plan because I personally believe that assuming all immigrants arrive to America for malicious reasons is a negative connotation to bring up and that can harm the people who actually arrive to America for cases that provide well enough reasoning. Biden provides actual guided plans on how to welcome immigrants arriving to the U.S. and taking precautions and helping immigrants in taking the steps and advances to become apart of America as a citizen. Whilst Trump in his plan, declines the chances of a reasonable future of those in need with the simple input of him attempting to complete his wall whilst running his next term.
ReplyDeleteTrump has acted like a racist bigot with his handling of immigrants. He is turning the entire American people against the nonexistent threat of immigrants being murderers, rapists and drug smugglers, and this needs to stop.
DeleteI hope that climate change promises will be acted upon after the election. The environment is the most pressing issue right now, and the most important policy change that could happen. We need a green new deal, and if not, we need to get as close to it as possible.
ReplyDeleteI really hope that whoever is the next president will take the COVID-19 crisis more seriously. Trump has completely screwed over the country with his inadequacies and failures with his handling of the pandemic. Whoever the next president is needs to step up and handle this pandemic like it needs to be handled. What baffles me is that he claims that he "solved the COVID-19 pandemic" and yet we're getting 500k cases a week.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Way too many people are dying from the Coronavirus than would if more responsible leadership was in place. Rhetoric and policy could help stop this pandemic, and instead federally that isn’t happening. Ethan Lader
DeleteI significantly hope that Biden (if he wins) will act upon the impending doom of environmental change. With Trump sending America back lightyears due to his withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. With Trump as president, the pollution in not only America but the world will only elevate because he simply doesn't believe in the science and facts presented in front of him. This election is very unique because neither side represents to people exactly, however I do believe Biden is more fit to address the problem of climate change than Trump. While all other topics can be thrown up for debate, especially domestically, I am confident that if Biden wins this election, diplomatic ties internationally will also increase through the form of the Paris Agreement and not only limit pollution.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Climate change is the existential threat to this planet and action needs to be taken very quickly and soon for the fate of the planet to have hope.

DeleteOne policy I want to see come out of this election is criminal justice reform. Personally, I have not been directly affected by the faulty criminal justice system in America. However, I know that their are deep roots of systemic racism riddled within the system, and it is truly disturbing. I really hope that if Biden wins, he take comprehensive action to reform the broken and racist criminal justice system in America which disproportionately discriminates against minorities.

DeleteI think that Biden's plan for COVID-19 is one that could be very helpful, as well as recognizing how important it is to address communities of different ethnicities and how the pandemic has affected them in larger numbers than others.
